The township of Katoomba is ideally nestled in the heart of the Blue Mountains National Park and is a popular tourist destination for international travellers as well as local Sydney residents. There are a number of tour operators who can take you on guided tours of the Blue Mountains, or alternatively you can drive up there yourself following the M4 Western Motorway and Great western Highway from the city centre.
The Blue Mountains is a very picturesque part of New South Wales and is filled with scenic lookouts, spectacular waterfalls, rugged bushland and towering rock formations. The most famous attractions in the Blue Mountains are undoubtably the 3 Sisters rock formation and the Katoomba Scenic Railway, which are both found just south of Katoomba town centre.
There are lots of bush walking tracks for you to explore in the Blue Mountains, ranging from 1 hour beginners walks through to more advanced hiking trails. In Katoomba, and the nearby Blue Mountain townships of Wentworth Falls, Lawson, Hazelbrook and Woodford, there are also plenty of restaurants, cafes, bars and shopping boutiques where you can spend a relaxing afternoon.
