Immigration Museum

Australia and the city of Melbourne was founded on the back of immigration, initially from Europe and later on from Asian and other countries. The Immigration Museum in the Melbourne CBD provides you with moving stories and detailed accounts of why people decided to migrate to Victoria, which country they came from, where they settled and what they did once they came to this country. It also celebrates all of the wonderful benefits that migrants have brought to this city through the 19th and 20th centruary.

The Immigration Museum is housed in the Old Customs House which is located on Flinders Street between William and Market Street. To get to the Immigration Museum you can choose to either walk from the nearby Southern Cross or Flinders Street train stations, catch the number 35, 55, 70, 71 or 75 trams getting off at the corner of Market and Flinders Street, ride your bike along the Yarra River bike paths or drive into the city and park at one of the nearby paid car parks. Alternatively if you are already in the city you could take the Free City Circle Tram which runs right past in the door of the Immigration Museum.
