If you are looking for a great land-based tourist attraction in Cairns then just a short 20 minute drive north of the city along the Captain Cook Highway you will find the Cairns Tropical Zoo. With over 6 hectares of tropical landscaped gardens the Cairns Tropical Zoo is an amazing way to spend a day whilst you explore the huge variety of different animals. At the zoo you will be able to cuddle a koala, have your photo taken with a wombat, feed the crocdiles with a pole, hold an alligator, snake or lizard and feed the colourful native birds.
At the Cairns Tropical Zoo there is a large range of reptiles like snakes, monitors, dragons and crocodiles, plenty of native Australian birds and a numerous unique mammals such as kangaroos, koalas, wombats and possums. Some of the other animals at the zoo include Nepalese red pandas, tamarins from Costa Rica, ring-tailed lemurs, dingoes, echidnas, tropical water birds, birds of prey, cassowaries, alligators and crocodiles.
