The Entrance, New South Wales

With a great, central location halfway between Sydney and Newcastle the popular holiday destination of The Entrance is a wonderful place to spend either a long family vacation or a relaxing weekend getaway. The Entrance is one of the largest and most popular tourist destinations on the NSW Central Coast and is also internationally recognised as 'The Pelican Capital of Australia' because of the daily pelican feedings that occur on the waterfront at 3.30pm each day. One of the best things about The Entrance is that it is flanked by beautiful beaches and the Pacific Ocean on one side and the vast expanses of Tuggerah Lake on the other side. These means that there are plenty of water based activities to enjoy when staying at The Entrance, including excellent fishing, catamaraning, boat cruises, water skiing, parasailing, swimming, surfing and building sandcastles on the beach.

The area around The Entrance abounds in natural beauty with ocean, lake and mountain scenery, and one of the best ways to see it all is along the 12 kilometre long bike path that runs around the shores of Tuggerah Lake. Alternatively you can simply go for a relaxing stroll around town where you will pass delightful alfresco cafes and restaurants, picturesque parklands, boutiques, antique shops, art galleries, ice-cream parlours or even the live music and entertainment on the foreshore. Another great attraction in The Entrance is the Farmers Markets, which are held at the waterfront on the first and third Saturday of every month.

There are numerous activities and things to do whilst on holiday at The Entrance, like visiting Vera's Water Garden which is a real hit with children, playing a round of golf at the Kooindah Waters, Magenta Shores or Shelly Beach gold clubs, explore the nearby National Parks on foot or horse back, hire a boat and go fishing, go wine tasting in the nearby Hunter Valley or simply indulge in a little bit of people watching.
